What is Bhagam Bhag?

Bhagam Bhag (transl. Running Around) is a comedy thriller film that was released on December 22, 2006. It was written and directed by Priyadarshan, who is known for his successful comedy films such as Hera Pheri, Hungama, Malamaal Weekly, and others. The film was produced by Sunil Shetty and Dhilin Mehta and distributed by T-Series and Indian Films. The film was a commercial success and became the ninth highest-grossing film of the year in India. It also received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances of the lead actors, the music by Pritam, and the comedy scenes, but criticized the plot for being too convoluted and unrealistic.

Plot summary

The film tells the story of a theatre group led by Champak Chaturvedi (Paresh Rawal), who gets a contract to perform 30 plays in London. However, he faces a problem when his heroine Anjali (Tanushree Dutta) quits the group after being molested by one of his actors, Bunty (Akshay Kumar). Champak decides to travel to London without a heroine and hopes to find one there. He is accompanied by Bunty and Babla (Govinda), two aspiring actors who are always competing with each other for the hero's role.

In London, Bunty and Babla try to find a suitable heroine from the Indian population. They meet Gullu (Rajpal Yadav), a taxi driver who advises them to go to a park where they can find many Indian women. However, they end up getting their suitcase switched by two men who are working for Manubhai Gandhi (Arbaaz Khan), a builder and a drug smuggler. The suitcase contains heroin worth millions of pounds, which makes Bunty and Babla the targets of Manubhai's gang as well as the local police led by Commissioner J.D. Mehra (Jackie Shroff), who is also an Indian.

Meanwhile, Bunty finds a woman named Munni (Lara Dutta) who is trying to commit suicide by jumping in front of a car. He saves her and convinces her to join his theatre group as the heroine. Munni agrees and soon falls in love with Bunty. However, she suffers from amnesia and does not remember her past. She also has suicidal tendencies and tries to kill herself several times. Later, she regains her memory and reveals that she is actually Nisha Chauhan, a married woman from Liverpool. Her husband Vikram (Shakti Kapoor) is an abusive man who forces her to work as a prostitute for his boss Mac (Sharat Saxena ), a drug lord. Nisha had escaped from Mac's den and had lost her memory after being hit by a car.

The film then follows the adventures of Bunty, Babla, Champak, and Nisha as they try to evade the villains and the police, while also performing their plays on stage. They also encounter various characters such as Guru (Shakti Kapoor), a spiritual leader who is actually a fraud; Chhota Don (Ranvir Shorey), a small-time gangster who is obsessed with Amitabh Bachchan; and Ghulam (Asrani), a Pakistani barber who is mistaken for a terrorist. The film culminates in a climactic chase sequence where the heroes manage to expose the villains and clear their names, while also finding their true love interests.
